Abu Dhabi has just earned a prestigious global nod. The Zayed National Museum has been named one of TIME’s World’s Greatest Places 2026, the magazine’s annual list recognising 100 extraordinary destinations worldwide for unique experiences, innovation, and cultural significance.
One of the Region’s Rarest Honours
The recognition places the Abu Dhabi landmark among just two destinations in the Middle East category and three across the wider MENA region for 2026. For a museum that only opened its doors in December 2025, this is a remarkable achievement.
Architecture That Tells a Story
Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, the museum’s iconic structure draws inspiration from the wings of a falcon in flight, a symbol of Emirati heritage and the values of Sheikh Zayed.
What’s Inside
The museum traces over 300,000 years of human history through immersive exhibits, digital storytelling, and rare artefacts, including the Abu Dhabi Pearl, estimated to be around 8,000 years old, and a 3,800-year-old cuneiform tablet from Iraq, often described as the world’s oldest recorded customer complaint.
Part of a Bigger Vision
The Zayed National Museum reflects the UAE’s broader strategy to position itself as a global cultural destination while preserving its national identity and traditions. It sits within the Saadiyat Cultural District alongside Louvre Abu Dhabi, with the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi still to come.
For anyone planning a visit to the UAE, this is now officially one of the world’s must-see destinations.
