Ajman Rolls Out New Phase of Building Compliance Initiative to Raise Construction Standards

Ajman is intensifying its regulatory push across the built environment, launching a new phase of its building compliance initiative as the emirate works to align its real estate and construction sectors with international safety and sustainability standards.

Strengthening Safety Across the Building Stock

The initiative, developed by the Ajman Department of Municipality and Planning in coordination with Ajman Police and Civil Defence, targets building owners, real estate offices, and property management firms to ensure facilities comply with all applicable standards. A key objective is to reduce fire incidents per 100,000 residents, with the programme covering buildings ranging from one to 58 years old.

Abdul Rahman Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Department, emphasised the initiative’s role in improving infrastructure efficiency and equipping buildings with proactive measures to mitigate a broad range of risks.

Building Classification as a Market Tool

As part of the broader compliance framework, a team of qualified professionals conducts on-site inspections and assessments, with findings published transparently through an integrated electronic programme. The classification system is designed to support investor confidence by enabling more informed decisions when purchasing or leasing property in the emirate.

A Green Building Agenda Running in Parallel

The compliance drive runs alongside Ajman’s accelerating green building programme. The total number of certified green buildings in the emirate reached 16,314 by the end of 2025 — nearly double the figure recorded two years prior. Officials say the next phase will incorporate smart monitoring systems and digital inspection mechanisms to deepen sustainability integration across the building stock.

Broader Strategic Alignment

The initiative forms part of Ajman Vision 2030, which positions sustainable, regulation-compliant urban development as central to the emirate’s long-term investment appeal and quality of life agenda. With construction ranking among the top contributors to Ajman’s GDP, the compliance push carries significant economic as well as safety implications.
