New Mega Mall Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects to Feature 400 Stores, Ice Rink, Cinema, and Rooftop Dining
Arada has signed a Dh2.18 billion contract with Dubai-based United Engineering Construction Company (UNEC) to build Madar Mall, the main retail and entertainment hub at the heart of the Aljada community in Sharjah.
The mall, designed by the world-famous Zaha Hadid Architects, will cover 1.1 million square feet and include more than 400 shops and 80 dining outlets across three floors. Highlights will feature an 11-screen cinema, an ice rink, a flagship gym, signature fountains, and a central observation tower with a rooftop restaurant offering scenic views.
Construction is starting right away, with completion expected by December 2028. Founded in 1976, UNEC has decades of experience in delivering major projects across the GCC.
A Landmark for Sharjah
Ahmed Alkhoshaibi, Group CEO of Arada, said the project will transform Sharjah’s shopping and leisure scene. “Madar Mall will set a new standard for integrated lifestyle and entertainment. It’s not just a place to shop but a destination for culture, recreation, and social life,” he explained. He also confirmed that this is the largest single contract Arada has ever awarded.
Eng Abdulhalim Muwahid, Chairman of UNEC, added that the company is proud to be part of such an iconic development. He said the mall is expected to redefine the UAE’s retail and leisure landscape.
Part of Aljada’s Growth
Madar Mall will anchor the final phase of Aljada’s Madar entertainment district, which spans a total built-up area of 3.9 million square feet. The district’s unique design, inspired by the ripple effect of a water droplet hitting the ground, features elliptical-shaped buildings and landscaped open areas.
Once open, the mall is expected to attract up to 20 million visitors a year. It will complement other attractions already open at Aljada, such as the region’s largest skate park, the Zad food district, trampoline and adventure parks, and the Wellfit Madar gym.
Aljada is already home to 20,000 residents and will eventually grow to include more than 25,000 homes along with retail, education, hospitality, sports, wellness, and commercial facilities. With easy access to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Dhaid Road, Sharjah International Airport, and the upcoming Etihad Rail station, Aljada is quickly becoming one of the UAE’s fastest-growing mixed-use communities.
