Dubai’s Two New Metro Lines: Everything Residents and Investors Need to Know

Dubai just made its biggest public transport announcement in over a decade — and it reshapes the entire city.

The Dubai Metro Gold Line is a newly announced Dh34 billion public transport project designed to significantly expand the emirate’s rail network. The 42km Gold Line will span 18 stations, increase the length of the Dubai Metro network by 35 per cent, and is expected to launch on September 9, 2032.

The Gold Line: Route and Key Stations

The Gold Line will originate in Al Ghubaiba, move through Mina Rashid and City Walk, and into commercial hubs such as Business Bay and Mohammed Bin Rashid City, before reaching newer residential clusters including Al Barsha South and Jumeirah Village Circle, and terminating at Jumeirah Golf Estates. The route will integrate with the Red Line at Business Bay and Jumeirah Golf Estates, and with the Green Line at Al Ghubaiba.

The Gold Line will be linked to Etihad Rail passenger train stations at Jumeirah Golf Estates and a future Etihad Rail Station in Meydan. The line will serve about 1.5 million residents, carrying up to 465,000 daily passengers after 2040.

The Blue Line: Already Under Construction

The Dh18 billion Blue Line is scheduled to open on September 9, 2029. Spanning 30km with 14 stations, it will feature the world’s tallest metro station — rising 74 metres — and the first metro bridge crossing Dubai Creek, spanning 1.3km.

The Investment Angle

The Roads and Transport Authority said the Gold Line is expected to generate a 430 per cent economic return on the Dh34 billion investment, driven by savings in time and fuel, reductions in road accident fatality rates and carbon emissions, and its role as a catalyst for economic growth — driving up property prices along the route.

For residents and real estate investors, the time to pay attention to communities along these corridors is now — not 2032.
