The transport scenario in the city of Dubai is all set to undergo a major facelift with the soon-to-be-launched Blue Line of the Dubai Metro, which would be an extension of 30 kilometers to the already existing transport infrastructure of the city.
The Blue Line will have a total of 14 stations, connecting some of the main residential and business centers, intersecting with the Red and Green Lines. The line will branch into two: one from the Green Line’s Creek interchange to Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Ras Al Khor, and finally to International City through Academic City, while the other will be from the Red Line’s Centrepoint station to International City through Mirdif and Al Warqa.
It will operate along an underground route and an elevated route, and the stations are designed in an innovative manner inspired by seashells, as well as incorporating thematic interior designs signifying heritage and nature. At the time when the construction is about 10% completed in the latter part of 2025, it is estimated to accommodate over 350,000 passengers per day.
As part of the implementation of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the Blue Line is designed to facilitate connectivity in the city, along the ideology of a ‘20-minute city,’ where all required services are readily accessible to all citizens. With its proposed launch scheduled for 2029, the new metro line is expected to relieve traffic, connect, and facilitate smoother commutes throughout the city.
