For the over 700,000 Filipinos living and working in the UAE, sending money home has always come with friction — long queues, bank delays, and fees that quietly eat into hard-earned salaries. That’s now changing fast.
Telecom giant du has partnered with GCash, the Philippines’ number one finance super app, to offer faster and more seamless cross-border money transfers between the UAE and the Philippines. The partnership combines du Pay’s growing base in the UAE with GCash’s dominant position in the Philippine digital payments ecosystem, creating a direct pipeline for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to send money home without the usual hassle.
This isn’t the only deal reshaping remittances for Filipinos in the UAE. GCash also partnered with Careem Pay to enable direct wallet-to-wallet transfers from the UAE to the Philippines, with funds credited within minutes and available for immediate use — completely bypassing traditional bank processing times and physical remittance centers.
The timing matters. Thousands of Filipinos remain affected by ongoing regional tensions in the Middle East, making financial support more critical than ever. These new digital corridors ensure that support reaches families quickly and securely.
For OFWs, the shift is significant. Previously, international transfers could take up to five days and came loaded with fees. Now, transfers settle in minutes, with cash pickup available across nearly 15,000 locations across the Philippines.
The Philippines remittance market is one of the largest in the world, and the UAE is a key contributor. These fintech tie-ups are making that flow faster, cheaper, and more dignified for the people who depend on it most.
