House of India: Abu Dhabi to Host Cultural Hub Celebrating India-UAE Partnership

State-of-the-art museum to showcase Indian heritage as bilateral trade targets $200 billion by 2032

Abu Dhabi will soon host a “House of India”—a landmark cultural initiative announced during UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan‘s official visit to India on January 19, 2026. The facility will feature a state-of-the-art museum reflecting India’s ancient cultural heritage and serve as a lasting symbol of India-UAE friendship.

The announcement came as both nations celebrated bilateral trade crossing the $100 billion mark in FY 2024-25, with leaders committing to double that figure to $200 billion by 2032. The cultural project complements broader economic partnerships spanning energy, technology, defense, and infrastructure.

Cultural Diplomacy Meets Economic Strategy

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the House of India as “a unique cultural space” that will showcase Indian art, heritage, and archaeology. The facility aligns with broader people-to-people initiatives between nations hosting one of the world’s largest diaspora communities—approximately 4.5 million Indians live and work in the UAE.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the UAE’s reciprocal commitment to provide historical artifacts for India’s National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal, demonstrating the bilateral nature of cultural exchange. The nations also agreed to expand youth exchanges and educational linkages, building on the recent opening of IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad offshore campuses in the UAE.

Beyond Culture: Strategic Infrastructure Plays

The cultural announcement emerged alongside major economic commitments. The UAE is exploring partnership in Gujarat’s Special Investment Region at Dholera, which will include an international airport, MRO facility, greenfield port, smart township, and railway connectivity. UAE sovereign wealth funds have been invited to participate in India’s second NIIF Infrastructure Fund launching in 2026.

First Abu Dhabi Bank and DP World have established branches in GIFT City, positioning it as an international financial hub connecting Indian corporates to GCC and MENA markets. The nations also signed a 10-year LNG supply agreement for 0.5 million tonnes annually starting 2028, reinforcing energy security partnerships.

Technology and Innovation Focus

Discussions covered establishing a supercomputing cluster in India, data center cooperation, and exploring “Digital Embassies” under mutually recognized sovereignty arrangements. The UAE backed India’s AI Impact Summit scheduled for February 2026, while both nations agreed to collaborate on advanced nuclear technologies including large reactors and small modular reactors.

The visit marked Sheikh Mohamed’s third official trip to India as President and his fifth in a decade, demonstrating sustained high-level engagement. Defense cooperation received fresh momentum with a Letter of Intent toward a Strategic Defence Partnership, complementing ongoing military exercises and service chief exchanges.

Why This Matters

For Abu Dhabi, the House of India represents soft power investment that strengthens ties with a strategic economic partner while serving the substantial Indian diaspora. The facility will likely become a tourist and cultural destination, similar to existing cultural centers operated by other nations in the UAE.

The broader India-UAE partnership positions the UAE as a critical bridge between South Asia and global markets, particularly through initiatives like Bharat Mart and the Virtual Trade Corridor connecting Indian MSMEs to Middle East, African, and Eurasian markets.
