Thinking of visa renewal? Clear your traffic fines first

Outstanding traffic fines in the names of Dubai resident expats must now be cleared by the liable parties before renewal of their visas. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners affairs (GDRFA) has ruled that a new electronic system that links residency-related transactions with the traffic fines systems of Dubai Police will now be implemented. The new system will cater to visa renewal, cancellation of visas or transfer requests. The system is currently in its pilot phase. Without the clearance of traffic fines no request will be entertained by GDRFA for visa related transactions. This is being done to encourage people to follow the rules, respect the laws of the land and even offers relaxation in terms of fine payments being made in instalments ensuring there is no burden on residents. There is a process also if anyone faces a job loss where the affected person needs to exit UAE and return only after he is able to find a new employment and a new visa.
