TikTok has become a major economic driver in the UAE, with small and medium-sized businesses on the platform contributing AED 1.1 billion ($299.5 million) to the economy and supporting over 7,000 jobs, according to a new impact report unveiled at the World Government Summit 2026.
The report, titled “The TikTok Effect: Enabling the UAE’s Dynamic Digital Economy,” reveals that more than 70,000 local SMBs are currently active on TikTok, with over 10,000 businesses launching specifically because of the platform. This marks a significant shift from entertainment platform to serious economic enabler.
Tourism and Skills Development
TikTok’s influence extends beyond business operations, reshaping consumer behavior across multiple sectors. An estimated 10% of tourist spending in the UAE is influenced by TikTok content, with half of users in key markets like the UK and US reporting increased awareness of the UAE as a travel destination.
The platform also drives skill development, with 26% of users citing learning as their primary reason for engagement. Notably, 75% of users report developing professional skills while 81% have built personal skills through the app.
Cultural Expression and Community Building
Beyond economics, TikTok fosters cultural exchange in the UAE’s diverse society. A significant majority of users say the platform motivates them to express and share their cultural identity, while national hashtags like #UAENationalDay have generated over 200,000 posts and 2 billion views.
These findings demonstrate how social media platforms are becoming integral components of national digital infrastructure, supporting the UAE’s vision for a diversified, innovation-led economy powered by technology and creativity
