The UAE has taken part in an emergency videoconference convened by the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council, bringing together global leaders to formally address Iran’s unprecedented missile and drone attacks on Gulf nations.

The UAE participated in an Extraordinary Meeting of leaders from the GCC, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, and the European Union, held via videoconference on 9 March 2026, to discuss Iranian aggression against countries in the Gulf and the wider region. The meeting was co-chaired by António Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
What Did the UAE Delegation Say?
His Highness Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, expressed his gratitude to the gathered leaders for their steadfast support and unity during the current crisis. His Highness praised the resilience demonstrated by the UAE in defending against more than 1,700 Iranian missiles and drones. He highlighted the country’s commitment to safeguarding the safety and security of all its citizens.
His Highness emphasised that Iran’s actions constitute a grave violation of the UAE’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, a flagrant breach of international law, and a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.
