UAE Private Sector Remains Steady Despite Regional Headwinds

The UAE’s private sector has proved remarkably resilient amid ongoing regional tensions, with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) confirming this week that businesses across all economic sectors continue to operate normally and employees are receiving wages on time.

What the Data Shows

The Wage Protection System, which covers roughly 99% of private sector workers and is monitored in coordination with the UAE Central Bank, shows no meaningful drop in compliance. In Q1 2026 alone, MoHRE handled approximately 7 million customer transactions — with 2.3 million completed in March — while its call centres logged over 4 million interactions and 1.5 million legal consultations delivered in 22 languages, all pointing to smooth, uninterrupted service delivery.

Flexibility as a Stabiliser

Flexible work arrangements, including remote and work-from-abroad options, have played a meaningful role in helping employers adapt without compromising output. MoHRE’s data shows the majority of private sector establishments continue operating from their usual workplaces, while a portion have opted for hybrid or remote models suited to their business needs. Several major companies have also publicly reaffirmed their commitment to protecting both jobs and salaries.

A Resilient Foundation

The message from MoHRE is clear: the UAE’s diversified economic base, strong regulatory framework, and the deep partnership between government and the private sector continue to insulate the workforce from external shocks. As regional uncertainty persists, the labour market’s stability stands as one of the more telling indicators of the economy’s structural strength.
