The UAE has just announced the most significant transformation of government operations in its history — and the timeline is two years.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum unveiled a new government framework aiming to deploy Agentic AI in government operations, transforming 50 per cent of government sectors, services, and operations to implement autonomous Agentic AI models within two years. The plan aims to redesign government policies, processes, and procedures based on AI capabilities, enabling smart systems to perform tasks proactively and accurately, thereby reducing operational costs, boosting productivity, and providing faster and more efficient services.
What Agentic AI Means in Practice
AI is no longer a tool — it analyses, decides, executes, and improves in real time. It will become the government’s executive partner to enhance services, accelerate decisions, and raise efficiency. Every federal employee will be trained to master AI, building one of the world’s strongest capabilities in AI-driven government.
Implementation will be overseen by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, with a dedicated taskforce chaired by the UAE Minister of Cabinet driving execution. There will be a phased introduction in ministries and federal departments, based on continuous performance and impact assessments.
A 20-Year Digital Journey Reaching Its Peak
This announcement is not a leap into the unknown — it is the culmination of two decades of deliberate digital infrastructure. In 2017, the UAE became the first country in the world to appoint a Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, and launched the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 under the UAE Centennial 2071 vision.
