Oman’s Al Rawdah Special Economic Zone, strategically located on the border with the UAE, is set to transform cross-border trade and industrial cooperation between the two nations with its phased development spanning up to 24 square kilometers.
14 Square Kilometers in Phase One
The zone will span approximately 14 square kilometers in its first phase of development and operation, with potential expansion to 24 square kilometers during the second phase based on investor demand and long-term growth projections.
The development will be led by Mahadha Development Company, an Emirati-Omani joint venture with DP World as the majority partner, combining Emirati and Omani expertise in logistics and economic zone development.
Strategic Location and Connectivity
Located in Al Rawdah District of Mahdah Wilayat in Al Buraimi Governorate, the zone benefits from direct access to Oman’s main road network and proximity to major regional logistics hubs, including Sohar Port and Jebel Ali Port in Dubai. The site lies approximately 85 kilometers from Al Buraimi and 125 kilometers from Sohar.
Economic Impact and Vision 2040
The project is expected to attract high-value investments across logistics, light manufacturing, and industrial services. Beyond economic returns, the zone supports job creation, knowledge transfer, and Oman Vision 2040’s diversification objectives.
Recent coordination meetings between Sharjah officials and Omani authorities have focused on activating customs clearance procedures for commercial goods and plant and animal shipments, demonstrating both nations’ commitment to streamlining cross-border operations and enhancing bilateral trade relations.
