Against a backdrop of regional uncertainty, the world’s leading banks, insurers, wealth managers, and FinTech firms have delivered a clear verdict: Dubai remains one of the most strategically important financial centres on the planet — and they are deepening their presence to prove it.
DIFC Reaches Its Highest-Ever Global Ranking
Dubai ranked seventh globally in the Global Financial Centres Index in March, its highest position to date, reflecting sustained international confidence in the emirate’s financial sector. The centre hosts 290 banks and capital markets firms, including 17 of the world’s 19 global systemically important banks, reinforcing its role as a bridge between East and West.
Major Banks Say Uncertainty Has Strengthened Their Commitment
Far from pulling back, global institutions say the current environment has reinforced their conviction. Rola Abu Manneh, CEO of Standard Chartered UAE, Middle East, and Pakistan, said, “We have been in the UAE for over 65 years, and DIFC has been our regional home since 2004. Our commitment to the country is firm and unchanged. The UAE entered this environment from a position of strength, supported by robust balance sheets, strong institutions, and a well-regulated financial system.”
Senior executives from some of the world’s largest financial institutions stressed that current geopolitical developments have not weakened their commitment to the UAE but instead reinforced Dubai’s strategic importance as a globally connected financial centre.
Insurance Premiums Double, Wealth Firms Surge to 500
The numbers behind the confidence are compelling. Gross written premiums in DIFC have doubled to more than $4.2 billion over the past four years. Wealth and asset management activity remains strong, with Dubai hosting the highest concentration of wealth in the Middle East and more than 500 firms in the sector operating within DIFC.
According to Henley & Partners, in 2026 the UAE has attracted more millionaires than any other country in the world.
Digital Assets and FinTech: A Regulatory Benchmark
Reece Merrick, Managing Director for Middle East and Africa at Ripple, said: “The local authorities have played a central role in establishing the UAE as one of the world’s leading hubs for digital assets. The clarity and ambition of the regulatory frameworks that have been put in place, combined with a mature financial ecosystem and access to institutional capital, gives companies the confidence to lay solid foundations here. That is a hard thing to build, and the UAE has achieved it, setting a benchmark not just for the wider region, but globally.”
Dubai Future Finance Week Sets the Stage
The statements come as the inaugural Dubai Future Finance Week runs from 11 to 15 May 2026, convening international leaders from finance, policy, technology and investment through a coordinated programme of high-level forums — organised under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of DIFC.
