HyperMax Creates Jobs and Supports Bahraini Businesses
Dubai-based Majid Al Futtaim has introduced its new supermarket brand, HyperMax, in Bahrain after Carrefour officially closed its operations in the country on September 14. The group, one of the largest family-owned businesses in the region, holds exclusive rights to run Carrefour in 12 markets across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, with interests in shopping malls, real estate, retail, and leisure.
Carrefour Bahrain confirmed the closure in a social media post, while the brand had already shut down in Jordan in November 2024 and Oman in January 2025. In both countries, HyperMax stepped in to replace Carrefour, continuing the company’s retail presence. Now, Bahrain will have six HyperMax stores serving customers across the Kingdom.
Employing 1,600 people in the Kingdom, the store is partnering with over 250 Bahraini farmers, producers, suppliers, and SMEs to create more sustainable supply chains.
According to Mohamad El Khatib, head of operations at Majid Al Futtaim Retail – HyperMax Bahrain, the launch highlights the group’s goal of putting communities and customers first. By sourcing locally, HyperMax not only makes fresh and affordable groceries more accessible but also supports local businesses, helping build stronger and more sustainable supply chains in Bahrain.
